Meet Kaylee & Clara

Introducing the new additions to my family, my BEAUTIFUL Blythe girls, "Kaylee & Clara". Many of you that will be visiting this blog from my other blog "Pinkadoo"...are probably wondering what the heck are these dolls (the same thing I thought when I saw one)!!! Well let me try and explain a little about these adorable "Blythe" dolls.

This information about "Blythe" is from the Official Takara Blythe Website!

Manufactured by Kenner in 1972, the original Blythe (now known as "vintage") was produced for only one year and then was retired because of poor sales. For 28 years, Blythe was a curiosity that only doll collectors were interested in. Then, in late 2000, she made her comeback in Japan when CWC produced a charming TV commercial for Parco department store starring Blythe. After the TV spotlight she became an overnight sensation in Japan and Asia. In June 2001, to meet the popular demand of this new Blythe fanbase, CWC produced an 11 inch neo-Blythe doll, Parco Limited Edition, with the permission of Hasbro and the manufacturing help of Takara. Since that launch, 62 and still counting! editions of neo-Blythe dolls have been produced.

So, one day I was on ETSY (my favorite place to shop) and I happened to visit a store that I never seen before called "DollyMolly".......and there they were........these big head, big eye dolls starring right at me. There was one particular doll that totally captured my heart and from there on.....the research began....I have to find out what these dolls were!

I would like you now to meet "Georgia Peach".......the precious little gal that captured my heart and made me fall in love with these Blythe dolls! And for all of you that know me and my daughter........you will see why I fell "In LOVE" with Georgia Peach......and for you who don't know us......it's because Georgia looks so much like my daughter when she was little!

Isn't she just the cutest thing.......her proud mama is Maggie and you can see more pictures of "Georgia Peach" and Maggie's other 38 Blythe dolls on her Flickr. This adorable dress was made by Tammara, who is the wonderful designer of Blythe outfits. You can see all her creations at her ETSY store "DollyMolly".

So with all this being said.......after a few days of researching these dolls......I found myself buying my first 2 blythe girls....."Kaylee and Clara". But let me tell ya.......these dolls are very addicting.....I'm finding myself wanting more dolls and little outfits, shoes, hair bows and the list goes on! And this is no cheap hobby......let me tell ya :)

What's super cool about these dolls.......is most of them are customized! Which mean......many owners will either pay someone to make the dolls look different or they will do it themselves! After finding out how much it cost to have a doll customized.......I got brave enough and did my girl myself! It is very time consuming and you have to be super careful, but the end result is just amazing! What all is involved with customizing.......well for my dolls......I ended up carving their lips, nose, sanded their faces to give them a matte look (cause they come all shiny), added new eyelashes, eyechips (each doll has a pull string in the back of their head, which they can change the color of their eyes four times) and even added freckles to my Clara. But there are so many other ways to customize these dolls. You need to check out Flickr.com and type in "Blythe" and you will see ALL the amazing dolls.

Here are a few pictures of one my dolls before and after I customized her!

The top picture is my doll BEFORE I customized her and the bottom picture is of her after! What a crazy difference......to me they don't even look like the same doll. Many Blythe owners will reroot mohair on their girls......but that can get very expensive, so I ended up buying a wig for my girl and I just LOVE her hair! Isn't she SOOOOO pretty! If you click on the picture, you can see a close up of the carving I did.

So call me crazy for LOVING these dolls, but you would not believe all the "Blythe" fans out there! "Big Girls" can have dollys too! My daughter thinks I'm going through a mid-life crisis (maybe she's right) and she thinks these dolls are scary.......but I told her "You better start lovin' them, cause they are going to be yours one day :)"

So anyways.....enough for now! I would like to thank everyone for stopping by and I hope you will keep checking back and enjoy the new adventure with my dolls and I. And I'm so excited to say......that my 3rd girl is on her way.......more details about her later......so make sure you stop back and visit!

Have a beautiful day!
~hugs~
